Endorsed by the medical and scientific communities, Definitions has had the opportunity to develop and present research papers such as the Grand Banks Case Study, The Value of Wellness, Obesity Prevention in Offshore Workers and Determining ROI for Offshore Wellness Programs. We are recognized as subject matter experts in the field of health and wellness and are regularly requested to speak at international conferences.

 

Zach Hynes

Zach Hynes

Offshore Kinesiologist B.Kin (Hons), CSEP-CEP & CPT, CK

Zach graduated from Memorial University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (honors) and is a Certified Kinesiologist with the Newfoundland and Labrador Kinesiology Association.

He is an Ergonomics and a Jobs Demand Analysis (JDA) subject matter expert who has performed many assessments for high-risk occupations. Zach is also an offshore kinesiologist/ergonomist who has worked on all of the Oil and Gas platforms/vessels offshore in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Certified Acupuncturist, Safety Wellness Coach

Chris is a Registered Acupuncturist and a Massage Therapy graduate. In the interim to becoming a registered Massage Therapist, Chris is aiding in the research study being conducted by Definitions in obesity and hormonal response to exercise.

Andrea (Ange) Stokes

Andrea (Ange) Stokes

Registered Dietitian, BASc, RD

Ange holds a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree at Ryerson University in Toronto.

She completed her dietetic internship with Eastern Health in 2013 and she is currently a Registered Dietitian with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Dietitians.

She also holds a board position with NLCD. Ange has experience working in a variety of clinical and community settings.

Robert Cahill

Fitness Facility Supervisor

A graduate from Memorial University’s Kinesiology program, and a Certified Kinesiologist, Robert has been a part of the Definitions’ team since 2010 and oversees day to day operations of our fitness facility.

Robert takes a great deal of pride in his work and strives to provide clients with the capacity to do the things in life that mean the most - whether that means training to be a better athlete, or simply being able to pick up their grandkids. Through innovative program design, and close attention to detail, Rob ensures each client is provided with the best opportunity to enhance their quality of life, so they can enjoy it to its full potential.

Dr. Farrell Cahill, PhD

Dr. Farrell Cahill, PhD

Lead Researcher

Dr. Farrell Cahill, PhD is a recognized leader in the field of obesity, diabetes and exercise physiology in Canada. Through his expertise in genetics, endocrinology and human physiology Dr. Cahill explores the aetiology and management of both obesity and diabetes to improve occupational health and performance. Along with 16 years of research experience, he has published 26 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and 45 abstracts at national and/or international conferences. Dr. Cahill holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Kinesiology with a PhD in Medicine and is currently the Research Lead for the Medisys Health Group, working out of the Occupational Health Division in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada.

John Scaplen

John Scaplen

Physiotherapist

John was born and raised in St. John’s where he completed a BSc (Honours) at Memorial University in 2005 and a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy at Dalhousie University in 2012.

After graduation from the MScPT program John’s early career was spent in Calgary, Alberta affording him the opportunity to access substantial continuing education, leading to formal training in Movement Impairment Syndromes, upper and lower extremity advanced course work and Spinal Manipulation.

However, John is most highly trained in and passionate about The McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT), having recently completed a 2-month advanced residency in Austin, Texas while working toward a Diploma in MDT. John has also been an assistant instructor for many MDT courses sharing his skills and passion for this method of treating spine and extremity conditions with other Physiotherapists and Chiropractors in both Canada and the United States.
